Located in the middle of the Indochina Peninsula, Cambodia is wedged between Thailand (in the west), Vietnam (in the east) and Laos (in the north) on a surface 3 times less than France and 6 times more than Belgium. The landscape is midland, with the highest mountaintop reaching nearly 1,800m in altitude (in the soutwest), some flat top ranges in the north and two low mountain ranges (Cardamom and the Elephant) in the west.

Tropical white sand beaches, virgin islands, old colonial buildings and national parks contribute to the increasing popularity of the coast. It also shelters Angkor Borei, cradle of the pre-Khmer civilisation dating back to the 5th century. Fishing villages strew the major part of the coastline.

The western part of the region includes the wild and impenetrable jungle of Chuor Phnom Kravanh (range of the Cardamom), while in the densely populated east, the forest has made way for farming and agriculture. The many untouched islands and beaches fringed with palm trees, guarantee the development of tourism.
